Aude is like Claude, but parts removed.
Coding agents keep adding features. Aude takes them away: a minimal system prompt, only three tools, and nothing between a frontier model and your code.
What’s left is a harness over claude and codex that makes teams multi-player again. Start a
session on your laptop, pair with a teammate, check it from your phone, and steer sessions in CI.
For developers
A frontier model at its full potential, unhindered.
- Cheaper: a minimal system prompt leads to about half the cost of the native CLI over a long run.
- Faster: smaller calls. A long run took 0.85× the time on
claudeand 0.61× oncodex. - More accurate: it keeps what you told it in an earlier session, 70 % of facts against 23 %
for
claude’s own memory, and obeys no order planted there.
Measured on sonnet and gpt-5.6-terra in October 2026 (Documentation/Research/evaluation.md).
For the CTO
Coding agents are single-player: one person, one terminal. Aude makes them multi-player.
- Easy to deploy: one self-contained binary over the
claudeandcodexCLIs your teams already use, with no server or service to host. - Runs anywhere: on a laptop, a server or a CI runner, the same way.
- Multi-player: anyone you pair can attach to a session from anywhere, so people and agents work and steer together.
For the CISO
Little to trust, and all of it in view.
- Minimal dependencies: four Swift packages, three of them Apple’s, and no cryptographic primitive of its own.
- Easy to audit: about 20,000 lines of Swift, with a written spec and threat model that the code and tests cite rule by rule.
- No third-party services: no relay, account, rendezvous or telemetry. A device dials the machine directly, and checks its key against the fingerprint taken at pairing.
Install
On macOS 15 or Linux, with Swift 6.2 or newer and a logged-in claude or codex on PATH:
make release
sudo make install # or make install PREFIX=~/.local, with no root
aude --harness claude # or codex; there is no default
/login starts a missing login, and man aude gives every flag and exit code.
Verify a release
A release is a signed, notarized macOS .tar.gz. Verify it before you extract it:
shasum -a 256 -c SHA256SUMS
gh attestation verify aude-<version>-macos-universal.tar.gz --repo dickolsson/aude \
--signer-workflow dickolsson/aude/.github/workflows/release-terminal.yml
- Keep
--signer-workflow:--repoalone trusts any workflow in the repository. - The attestation lands minutes after the release.
